Fernand Fonssagrives ( 1910 – 2003)

Né en 1910 d’un père sculpteur et d’une mère musicienne, ils ont encouragé Fonssagrives à faire des son plus jeune âge ce  qu’il aimait le plus: il s’est donc intéressé très tôt à  la science, l’art, le sport, la gymnastique et la danse. Il a déménagé en Amérique à l’âge de 18 ans afin de poursuivre ses études de danse, et n’ est retourné en Europe qu’à l’âge de 21 ans pour effectué son le service militaire.Suite à cela, il a rejoint une compagnie de danse allemande, où il a rencontré la danseuse suédoise  Lisa Bergstrom qui est devenue sa partenaire de danse, puis sa femme. Son œuvre la plus mémorable retrace le partenariat unique qu’il a eu avec elle ( qui fût  sa première femme), le modèle légendaire  qu’est Lisa Fonssagrives (qui ensuite se maria au grand  Irving Penn).

Lisa est en partie  « responsable » du travail photographique que  Fonssagrives mena. En effet, elle lui offrit un appareil, après que  sa carrière de danseur ne prenne fin en raison d’une blessure. Cet appareil dira-t-il ; «Il est devenu une partie de mon corps. »

Fernand et Lisa passent deux ans en Europe , ce grâce à la  vente des photos qu’il réalise  d’elle ( 50 publications européennes) .  Lisa est devenue Le modèle demandée par tous, et fît une carrière de mannequin notoire. Malheureusement, leurs carrières ont divergé et le mariage a pris fin; Lisa était l’incarnation de la mode, et si Fonssagrives travaillé pour la crème de l’industrie du magazine comme Vogue, Bazaar et Town & Country Harpers, il finit par se lasser voir  haïr le mode de  la mode .

Pour retrouver sa liberté créative après toutes ces désillusions avec la photographie publicitaire, il a déménagé à Espagne et s’est mis à sculpter, et a retrouvé son indépendance créative. De retour à New York après deux ans, ses sculptures trouvent un grand succès et se vendent très bien.

il a fini les restes de ses jours à  Little Rock.

Edward Steichen – Fashion Vogue & Vanity Fair

Après avoir rejoint  le pictorialiste renommé Alfred Stieglitz pour soutenir le mouvement « Photo-secession » aux États-Unis au debut 1900, période durant laquelle , l’appareil photo était pour Steichen un outil, au même titre que le pinceau ou le fusain, au moyen duquel exprimer sa perception de la vie

Après la Première Guerre mondiale, au cours de laquelle, il revient à la « straight photography », il évolue ensuite progressivement vers la photographie de mode. Au début des années 1920, l’éditeur américain Condé Nast le choisit pour devenir le photographe en chef des publications du groupe, imposant ses exigences en matière de photographie : « La distinction, l’élégance et le chic. » Il travaille particulièrement pour Vanity Fair et pour Vogue, magazines pour lesquels il réalise notamment de nombreux portraits de célébrités, démontrant une grande capacité à mettre en valeur ses sujets. Il travaillera également étroitement avec Carmel Snow d’Harper’s Bazaar.

Il photographie Gloria Swanson en 1924, puis l’une de ses photographies de l’actrice Greta Garbo, datant de 1928, parue en couverture du magazine Life le , est considéré comme l’un des portraits in.oubliables de l’actrice

Edward Steichen fut aussi  le photographe principal de Vanity Fair et de Vogue dans les années 20 et 30.
Reconnu pour son style distinctif et l’usage qu’il faisait de la lumière dans ses portraits dès le début du siècle, Steichen consacra sa vision artistique à « transformer la photographie de mode et à capturer la sophistication de la femme moderne . Son travail pour la mode en particulier à révolutionné le genre de la photographie de mode.
